 The Flying Dutchman is a small family owned winery that enjoys one of the most spectacular locations on the Oregon Coast. FDW have been making wine in front of the ocean since 1997 and many feel that it's the salt air that makes our wines so unique.
The Astoria tasting room is located in a newly renovated 1896 cannery building. This "Big Red Building" is on the water next to the new Cannery Pier Hotel. |

 The winemaker at Shallon Winery is Paul van der Veldt. As with many winemakers, Paul started out as an amateur some 35 years ago, and has been a commercial winemaker for the last 26 years. Specializing in dessert wines such as; Chocolate wine, chocolate-orange, Cranberry/whey wine, & Lemon meringue pie wine.
Other unique fruit and berry wines:
Wild Evergreen Blackberry, Blueberry, Wild Plum, Spiced Apple, Wild Black Raspberry, and Wild Hawaiian Mango.
Other wines I make from time to time that you might find elsewhere: Rhubarb, Peach, Black Cherry, and Zinfandel
